El Viernes Santo
Recuerdo que cuando era nina la tradicion
de mi familia era del ultimo dia
de Cuaresma, el Viernes
Santo.
Mi prima, mi hermana y yo estamos ayudandola
a cortar platano, naranja, cacahuates, grajeas, coco rallado y pasas. Mientras tanto las demas
personas hacen lo mismo en sus casas. Mis tios, mi papa, y hermanos se fueron a jugar un cuadrangular
de beisbol con otros equipos.Se esta acercando las doce

Good Friday
I
remember that when I was a girl the tradition in my family was the last day of
Lent, Good Friday.
It’s a special day,
we all wake up very early to help prepare the Lenten food. We’re all together
in my grandmother’s house, a humble home but full of love. I see my Grandma
making chiles for stuffing, my Mom preparing pipian, a traditional mole dish, my aunt is cutting the

coconut, and raisins. Meanwhile all the other people in town are doing the same
in their houses. My uncles, Dad, and brothers went to play baseball with other
teams. Its approaching
My
grandmother has set the tables-3 or 4, we’re a numerous family. They put the
food on the tables. I can see everything, mmm… the pipian, capirotada with all its
colors, the chocales, torrejas,
little shrimp sandwiches, stuffed chiles (they’re my
favorites), lentils, garbanzos, fish (capiado), a fruit drink. I can hear my Mom talking to my brothers and
sisters and to all to come to eat. We’re at the table before eating. I see
everyone in their places, my grandma saying it’s the time to give thanks to God
for all He has given us all year, my Mom blessing the food.
Now
that we’ve finished eating we’re preparing to go to church for
