Saint Rosa of Lima
Day
When I was a young
girl in my community we
celebrated the Day of St. Rose of Lima
every 29th of August. During the night of the 29th we
would stay up all night decorating the street with colorful papers and
streamers. Our neighbors and friends also joined in, and we waited for the procession of the
Virgen Rosa de Lima to come by. Everyone came out of their houses to join the
wonderful event, along with Mariachis who sang religious songs. Everyone walked
for three miles until we got to the church, and a mass was held. Agter mass we
would all gather outside to enjoy food, “antojitos”, games, and the feria. It was a
day to share with family and friends. I will never forget those beautiful days;
I will always carry them in my heart. Leticia Orozco
