WHAT ADULT EDUCATION MEANS TO ME

I was at home sitting and thinking about how my life was going. I wanted to do something better for my self. I thought that maybe I needed to start looking for a job. I talked to my husband and he said, “What kind of a job do you want?” I said, “well maybe I could apply at a nursery or a restaurant.” He asked if that was what I really wanted to be working in a place where I wouldn’t have Saturday and Sunday off and I would be working hard.  “Why don’t you go back to school, then find a job, that you deserve?”  And I did. I found a good program called Victory Adult Education Center.  They help us with preparing for our GED and learning English.  My classes are great.  Now I have a good job, and a better life with my family and my self.  And I have new goals.

The job I was looking for, I found. I work at Head Start as a substitute teacher. I also act as a translator for parents and teachers. I work with kids. The most important thing is that this class helps me with my job. Because I can learn more about proper grammar, I can help any one with the English language. My class that helps me the most is my Advanced English class because my English is acceptable but needs improment.

These classes are great because they help in many ways. When I was sitting at home instead of coming to Victory, my life was boring. My husband was uncomfortable, because he saw that this was not a good life for me. I couldn’t help my daughter with her homework because I didn’t know anything about writing proper English. My self esteem was terrible. I was loosing everything, even my life. Now I work and I help my daughter with her homework. My husband feels much better and he is proud of his wife. He knows that I can do anything I want. Now our lives are so much better.

My goals now are to help my daughter with her school work, to buy our own house, and a new car. I want to get my GED and go to college to get my Assistant Nursing Diploma. I want to encourage people to come to this program that has helped me and other people.

I feel like telling every person in Victory “thank you”. Thank you for making my life different and better. I want to say “thanks” to Alice, Kellie, and Sharon for all of their patience in helping me. If Victory didn’t exist, my life would be terrible. I enjoy coming to school and learning a lot.  “Thank you, Victory”.
