My Second Family

I’d like to tell you a few words about my English school.

 I came to the USA 3 years ago. I didn’t know English at all. Some Russian friends who graduated from here recommended this school to me. But I had to wait a couple of months to get a seat in any class.

 Finally, in 6 months, I got a place in the school that came to be my second family very soon. My teachers were very friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and kind. They taught us a lot of things: grammar, reading, conversations, writing and pronunciation. Also, they told us about American life, America customs, history, politics, holiday, religions, culture, and even how to react in different situations in real life. It was so important to us.

 In 2 years, I graduated with excellent marks and got a scholarship for college. My family was so proud of me! How happy I was when I was offered the opportunity to be a volunteer in my school. It was such a big honor for me to work with people whom I respect and love so much.

 It’s been one year already, and now I work as an instructor in the computer lab. Thanks to all my teachers. I try to do my best for the students, for my favorite school-for my second family.

I like coming to this adult school to learn English. That makes me happy and I can learn more things from the people who are my schoolmates and teachers.

Everyday we are speaking English only so we are better and better than before. Maybe someday I can to college. I hope this dream can come true. United States of American Education is very good. Therefore this country is the greatest country in the world.

The first time I came to the USA, language was my weakness. Here, people speak very fast, so I had difficulties communication with people, and sometimes I lost my confidence.

 In my opinion, speaking English is a must for me. How can I get a job if I cannot speak English very well? Fortunately, I found an ESL class where I am taking a class in the morning.

 Now I can understand what people say, and I can also express what I am thinking. Communication is easier for me, and finally, I go a job because of this.

Please do know that my family and I are so very grateful for having had such a wonderful opportunity to learn English through these courses. It is because of such English classes that I find myself much more fluent and quite independent. I am able to conduct job interviews, to go to the library, to take my MVD test, to go shopping and to the doctor by myself. Most of all, I feel capable of starting a new life in this big country and survive.

Since I moved to the United States , I work hard more than 13 years. My English still so poor. It always make me upset. Today I very glad I can join the adult education program. It help me a lot. I expect one day soon I speak English much better than right now.  

One thin I think is very important for everyone. It is “Directions for Job”. People learn how to speak and write English because they want to look for better job or good money to change their future as quickly as possible. So I need more information about a new job. That is also why there is a lot of student who want to know.

I believe the school is helping me a lot because I learn English and I can speak more than before. I try to come every day to learn something new. I think I’m doing better at my job because I can speak English.

I really like to come to adult education because it is helping a lot with my English. Now I can speak with my husband because he speaks only English.

 Also I can help my daughter with her homework and I understand her teachers when they need to talk to me. I can also write a not when it is necessary. Also I am a co-leader in the Girl Scouts.

 My name is Rosa . I’m from Sonora , Mexico . I’m thankful that you keep this school. For me, it has been of great help.

 Now I’m studying in the third level, and I am learning a lot every day. At the beginning, it was a little hard for me because I couldn’t understand anything, but I am patient and thought if a person can speak Spanish perfectly, with effort and dedication I could talk English too. And I believe that I am getting it. I know I need more, that I have a lot to learn. But I am on the road, and I believe that this is important for because I’m making good use of this school, and I’m taking this great opportunity that in the other country I didn’t have.

 With the things that until today I have learned I can help my partners in my job because once a month a doctor comes. He is a chiropractor-my job is very hard. He doesn’t speak Spanish and sometimes I help to translate for them. I also help them translate into Spanish messages that they receive from their children’s schools.

 Also I can help my niece. She is in Kindergarten, and she is learning the language too. When I help my partners, I enjoy it a lot when I read those messages and understand immediately, then I know that I don’t have a limit with the language.  I  also enjoy when  I can keep up my end of a conversation with my teachers or with other students. They are putting out their best effort and are learning every day in this school.

 Every day before my class, I go to the computer lab, and I study for almost 2 hours. I like to go because the Rosetta Stone Program helps me to understand a lot. In this computer lab, I can listen, read, and write on the computer. This is good for me because every day I learn more. We also have a little group for conversation practice for forty-five minutes each day.

 I give thanks to God to be in this school and on this road, and give thanks to you for keeping my school.

My name is Irina. I am from Russia . I have been in America for two years. When I moved to the United States , I did not understand any English words. Of course, I could not write and read any English sentences either. I was so miserable.

 My friend told me about this school. At first, I was afraid about how would I feel in this school. But I decided to study English. I have been learning English here for two years now. I am so happy here. I have a lot of friends form other countries. Our teachers are professional, respectful, and kind. They teach us a lot of things: reading, writing, and conversation. But also they teach us how to live here. We learn about American customs, holiday, and history. I think it is very important to students.
