Through
perseverance many people win success out of what seemed destined to be certain
failure.
Benjamin Disraeli
According to the Who Passed the GED Tests? 2002 Statistical Report (2004), (http://www.acenet.edu/clll/ged/whotook-A.cfm) of the 603,019 GED candidates who took the test in 2002, approximately 60% of them passed. It’s enough of a struggle to master the content necessary to pass the exam, let alone trying to balance your personal life on top of it. Even with these odds, Elaine Sanchez, still perseveres!
Elaine Sanchez has been part of the Town of Guadalupe, Youth and Young Adults Program, Youth Build since 2002. It has not been an easy journey to this point, but Elaine continues to move forward in her goal of taking her GED this coming April 2005.
The above quote by Benjamin Disraeli is the epitome of Elaine’s story. Statistically, Elaine should be out of the running for a GED: a young mother of five children, overcoming cultural and environmental conditions, striving for academic gains, etc. It is her perseverance, her supportive Youth Build family, and her desire for something better that pushed her forward into becoming part of the 60% GED completer population!
