MATH MATH MATH February 07

Can you imagine six hours of math class a day, twelve hours per week and at least that many hours of math homework?  It sounds like some people’s living nightmare, but for Christie Gin, it was a situation she chose in the spring of 2006.  A typical Monday or Wednesday for Christie looked like this: one math class at a Pima College Adult Education (PCAE) learning center to help her prepare for the GED exam, one three-credit math class at Pima Community College , and an extra two hours of tutoring to help her keep up with the college level work.  During this time, Christie’s mother passed away and she had to miss class for a short time to be with her family.  Still, she managed to finish the Pima course on time and received an A as her final grade.

Christie is like a sponge, soaking in all the knowledge she can. Christie’s hard work paid off when she received her GED in November of 2006.  Now, she is on her way to Pima College , where she is thinking of studying to be a medical assistant.  Christie Gin is a wonderful educational role model to her two young daughters, to her father who has followed her lead and is now a student at PCAE, and to her many PCAE classmates.
