In My Life
Adult
Education
has been important to
me, because when I came here for the first time I was just looking for English
classes. At Victory I learned to get back my goals, because I already had goals,
but a long time ago I had to give up my dreams.
When I was 16 years old, my father decided that I already had enough
school, and he took me out of school. In that time I had planned my future. I
thought about becoming a lawyer, and open my own law firm. Also, I planned to
spend some time helping poor people. I really think that I would have been a
good lawyer.
A few months ago, my husband took me to the library
to look for second language books, to help me to learn English. A man told us
that they didn’t have anything, and to go to Victory Adult
Education
Center. He gave us the
address, so I came here and began to study. As soon as I got here, I learned
that I could get my GED. The simple idea was amazing.
Here at Victory, I have been encouraged to
re-establish my goals. I can write here on this piece of paper about my
motivation, which are my children. However, I have a commitment to myself. I’m
doing this for myself. In this moment of my life, I really enjoy being a
student, and I have been thinking about my dreams. I want to get my GED and to
go to college. Then I will get a job, and earn some money. What am I going to
be? I don’t know, but I’ll get that Diploma, and then buy a beautiful frame
for my living room wall.
Victory Adult
Education
Center is not just a
name to me. Victory is the place that has given me an opportunity to learn
English, and the most important thing to get my GED. In my country, places like
Victory exist only in dreams. I think I’m a very lucky person to be here with
these people. They always encourage me to keep going. I’m happy that I found
Victory. That is really a right name for my school… Victory.
