La Paz Career Center

The GED and ESOL Program at La Paz County jail continues to grow strong and very popular with the inmates.  Many times there is a waiting list.  Seven  inmates took the GED in our last testing, and out of  that 6 people passed.  Don Puckett does a great job there!

Raul Robledo is one of the 3 older workers we currently have enrolled in GED Preparation.  Raul is currently unemployed, and cannot return to his line of work due to health reasons.  He is hoping that in obtaining his GED he will be able to pursue other avenues of employment.  He is very dedicated and comes in 4 hours everyday to study.

Desiree Miller, who is currently working in our office, received her GED the end of October!  She is moving back to California this month, but will take with her all the new skills she has learned in our office.  She just finished testing for Correctional Facilities in California, and has also interviewed at one of the One Stop Centers in Los Angeles.  We wish her good fortune.

REPAC was able to obtain $12,000 from the State to hire dislocated workers for the clean-up.  Donna Smith along with other REPAC employees did eligibility, and the workers were coordinated through the Career Center to work with John Bennet from La Paz County Parks.  Ten people were hired for a 3 week period.
