In this program I will use strategies to pronounce and
figure out the meaning of words by:
1) Recognizing homophones and homographs
2) Applying context clues
3) Using structural analysis
I will also apply reading skills to
everyday text such by:
1) Following multiple step directions
2) Summarizing the main idea and supporting details
3)
Identifying the author’s main purpose
4) Making predictions about events, actions, behaviors
5)
Identifying cause and effect relationships
6) Reading and interpreting charts, graphs, and tables found in community and
workplace text
7) Applying skimming and scanning reading strategies to locate information and
determine the main idea
Finally, I will apply reading skills to interpret
literary selections by:
1) Identifying the author’s theme or message and relate them to personal experience
2) Recognizing how history and culture are reflected in a reading selection
When
I am able to demonstrate the following skills most of the time, and score
between the 4th to 5.9th grade level on the reading skills
assessment, I will receive an ABE II Certificate of Achievement in Reading:
1) Know and use word families, suffixes, and prefixes to decode unfamiliar words
2) Use knowledge of antonyms and synonyms, homophones and homographs, and context to determine the meaning of words
3) Interpret and follow multiple-step directions
4) Identify the author’s main purpose
5) Identify cause and effect relationships
6) Summarize a main idea and supporting details
7) Scan written and graphic materials to locate items of information
8) Read and interpret charts, graphs, tables
