Steps for Using a Text Editor like Notepad

Student’s Name __________________________________________________

1. If you are working with Microsoft Windows 95/98 use a text editor like Notepad. The steps to get to Notepad are as follows:

1. Click on Start (located in the lower left corner)
2. Click on Programs
3. Click on Accessories
4. Click on Notepad

2. After reaching Notepad do the following steps:

1. Click on File
2. Click on Open

Browse to the A drive and open up the file named, "Who Am I". (A text file)

The file looks like the following diagram:

3. You are going to put the names of your pictures in the file and save it as an HTML file and also as a TEXT file.

1. Type the names of your graphics over, "picture1" and "picture2" etc.
2. Do a "Save As" of your file as an HTML file.
3. Do a "Save As" of your file as a text file.
4. Exit out of Notepad.

d. Using the desktops "My Computer" or other directory system, locate your saved HTML file named "Who Am I" and open it up by double clicking on your file’s name. If you are connected to the Internet, your simulated web page appears with your pictures.
