ARIZONA ASSOCIATION FOR LIFELONG LEARNING  
SCHOLARSHIP FUND DEFINITION, CRITERIA, AND ELIGIBILITY and Procedures for Application

 Purpose: The Arizona Association for Lifelong Learning offers up to $300 per year to one or more of its members throughout the fiscal year to be used to attend conferences, presentations, workshops, or other staff development activities.

 Scholarship Application Procedure: 

1. Members will be mailed an application form if requested, or obtain one at AALL events or from the AALL website. Members may nominate themselves or another person.  They  should return the application at least three weeks prior to the pre-registration date of an upcoming event.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to fill out all appropriate pre-conference registration materials, and include them along with the application form.

2. Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee, which consists of three AALL board members.   The committee will select the award recipient or recipients and announce the results by contacting individual recipients and posting their names in the newsletter.

3. Upon approval of the application by the Scholarship Committee, the Treasurer will pay the stipend covering the cost of the event directly to the sponsoring agency, including the attached pre-conference registration form as forwarded to the Treasurer.  If the award recipient has already paid the conference fees before being awarded the scholarship monies, reimbursement may be made directly to the recipient upon the presentation of receipts to the AALL treasurer.

4. Upon completion of the event, the recipient or recipients must write a summary article for submission to the AALL newsletter.  The article must be a review of activities undertaken, what was learned, and how the experience promoted the pursuit of lifelong learning.

 Instructions to Applicant:

1. Review the criteria for eligibility before applying

2. Complete the application, being sure to attach any appropriate, completed, pre-conference registration forms.

3. Observe the application deadlines:  Must be postmarked or e-mailed three weeks prior to the pre-registration deadline of the event.  Preference will be given to applications that meet the pre-registration deadline.

  Award Process and Requirement: 

1.  Applicants must be current, dues-paid AALL members. 

2.  Scholarship monies are awarded only once each year to a specific individual.  Individuals may re-apply for scholarships in a new fiscal year; however, priority will be given to applicants who did not receive scholarship monies the previous year. 

3.  When multiple participants apply, and it is deemed that all meet the eligibility, the recipient or recipients may be chosen via a “lottery” system.  When more than one recipient is chosen for the same or separate events, the amount of the awards will be at the discretion of the committee, considering relevant factors such as the cost of the event, travel involved, or other factors that might influence the amount of award per person. 

Applicant Nomination Criteria: 

Applications will be based on the following criteria, each weighted at 25% of the final total score:
1.        Educational goals
2.        Career goals
3.        Experience
4.        Statement describing how this activity will contribute to the goals mentioned above

 Narrative to Be Written: 

Please keep narrative brief, no more than one typewritten page, four paragraphs, addressing the criteria.
1. Complete a brief summary outlining your educational goals.

2. Complete a brief summary outlining your career goals.

3. Write a brief summary of your experience in the field of interest as paid or volunteer staff.

4. Describe how this event will contribute to your continuing academic and professional development.

5. Include a statement stipulating that other sources of funding are not available through local program staff development monies or other funding sources.
